About the position

As manager of mobile development, you are responsible for the day-to-day coordination and growth of a team of Android and iOS engineers, some onsite in Tokyo, some offsite in our Manila office.

While you are not expected to code yourself (and likely won’t have the time to do so), you are expected to be deeply involved in the development process by helping out with code reviews on both platforms; putting in place coding practices and confirming they are followed; assuring the code base is well architected and maintainable; writing design specifications based off of business requirements from product mangers in collaboration with our server-side and hardware teams; and delivering test cases to quality assurance.

You’ll work closely with our project managers, and our operations and QA managers to prioritize work and assign resources. You do understand how to balance agile development with the constraints imposed by release schedules. You will be able to hire more staff as the business expands. You will report directly to the director of engineering.

Requirements

  • Both Android and iOS apps coding experience (5 years+)
  • Built and lead an engineering team
  • Worked with off-shore development teams
  • Developed apps that interact with complex back-ends and hardware
  • Business-level Japanese ability preferred
