This role is a consulting position that demands collaborative work with both clients and colleagues within cross-functional product teams. Essential attributes include strong communication skills, technical proficiency, empathy, humility, and a thorough grasp of lean startup and agile values, principles, and methodologies.
The role requires a proven history of contributing to the conception, definition, and execution of user experiences across web and mobile products. Demonstrable experience in tackling diverse and challenging projects spanning the entire design process, including research, prototyping, and visual design, is essential.
Operating within an early-stage team, this role is designed to be dynamic, seeking individuals capable of growing alongside the evolving demands of the team. Given its status as a new business line, you’ll contribute to shaping the entire consulting framework at Code Chrysalis.
Note that this is a consulting role, where you’ll be expected to work alongside clients at our office and/or at the client’s site depending on the project. You’ll be working for the office most days of the week, with remote work and flex-time allowed on a case-by-case basis.
Responsibilities
- Produce materials for clients and developers, including user flows, wireframes, mockups, live style guides, and assets.
- Engage throughout the entire product lifecycle, focusing on shipping valuable software products rather than solely on wireframes.
- Guide product decisions through user research, customer development, and iterative feedback loops.
- Transferring design knowledge to the client.
- Enabling client leadership to grow their own engineering practice.
- Contributing to homegrown Code Chrysalis consulting methodologies and frameworks.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in the related field. Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience in designing applications, from consumer-facing to internal tools.
- Lead product design from research through implementation.
- Deep experience in at least one facet of the 3 facets of design: user research, interaction design, or visual design.
- Willingness to work in an agile design environment, rather than a waterfall one.
- Passion for skill enhancement, problem-solving, and engaging work.
- Proficiency in training, mentoring, or upskilling others.
- Adaptability to new environments and clients.
- Excellent teamwork skills, enabling collaboration across diverse roles within product teams.
- Business Japanese skills (equivalent to N1).

Compensation
9 to 15 million JPY annually.
