Privacy Policy

This website is operated by TokyoDev Inc (TokyoDev), a company incorporated and existing under the laws of Japan. When used herein, the terms “we”, “us” and “our” refer to TokyoDev.

This Privacy Policy describes our policies and procedures on the collection, use and disclosure of your information.

Information Collection and Use

Website Visitors

We collect standard technical information that browsers and servers typically make available, such as IP address, browser type, language preference, referring site, pages viewed, and the date and time of requests. We use this to operate, secure, and improve the website and to understand usage trends. We may publish aggregated, non-identifying statistics about site usage.

Newsletter Subscribers

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. We use it only to send you the newsletter and to manage your subscription.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting us.

Job Applications

If you apply for a job through TokyoDev, we collect the information you submit on the form, typically your name, email address, message, resume, country of residence, and whether you are willing to relocate to Japan. We transmit your application unaltered to the company you choose, usually by email.

In limited cases, authorized TokyoDev personnel may access your application to:

  • confirm or troubleshoot an issue reported by a company
  • detect and prevent spam or automated submissions
  • enforce our agreements with companies, including hire reporting obligations
  • provide tailored feedback to you if you request it

Some listings link to an external application form on the hiring company’s site or applicant tracking system. We may append a tracking parameter that indicates your application originated from TokyoDev. We do not share your personal information with those sites unless you submit it there. Their privacy policies apply to information you provide directly to them.

Profiles

You may choose to create a profile so that hiring companies can discover you. Creating a profile is entirely optional, and a profile is only included in our profile database once you choose to make it visible. You can hide your profile or delete it at any time. Hiding your profile immediately prevents authorized companies from viewing it.

Access to the profile database is restricted. Only companies that TokyoDev has specifically authorized can search and view visible profiles. When your profile is visible, those authorized companies can see the following information:

  • your name
  • your desired job title
  • a summary you provide about yourself
  • your technical skills
  • your years of experience
  • your Japanese level
  • whether you are located in Japan or outside Japan
  • your residency status in Japan, if provided
  • whether you are willing to relocate to Japan, and your visa qualification, if provided
  • the resume you upload (we do not alter your resume in any way, so any information it contains—such as your email address, phone number, employment history, education, or other personal details—will be visible to authorized companies)

Authorized companies may contact you through TokyoDev about opportunities. We do not provide your email address to authorized companies outside of the information you choose to include in your visible profile or resume. If you include your email address or other contact information in your resume, it will be visible to authorized companies. Authorized TokyoDev personnel may also access profiles to operate, support, and secure this feature and to enforce our agreements with companies.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies or similar technologies where necessary to provide the site and to understand aggregate usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect site functionality.

If we use analytics that set cookies, we do so to measure and improve performance in a privacy-preserving way. We do not build profiles for advertising.

Retention and Deletion

Upon your request, we will remove your personally identifiable information from our active databases as soon as reasonably possible. Nonetheless, we will retain, in our files, information you may have requested us to remove if, in our discretion, retention of the information is necessary to resolve disputes or troubleshoot problems. Furthermore, your information is never completely removed from our databases due to technical and legal constraints (for example, we will not remove your information from our back up storage).

Information Sharing

We share personal information only as described below:

  • With the company you apply to. As described in Job Applications.
  • With companies authorized to access our profile database. As described in Profiles, and only when you have made your profile visible.
  • With service providers. Vendors that host our services, send emails, provide security, or support our operations may access information solely to perform services for us and must protect it appropriately.
  • For legal, safety, and security. We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with laws, regulations, or legal processes; to protect any person’s safety; to detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect our rights or property.
  • Business transfers. If we undergo a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred subject to this Policy.

We do not sell your personal information.

Changes to this Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a change to this policy that, in our sole discretion, is material, a change notice will be published on the website with an updated effective date. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.

Effective as of November 23rd, 2022.
