Blued is a Tokyo-based company on a mission to give more people the opportunity to go global. We operate StudyIn, Japan’s largest overseas education service, as well as StudyIn Japan, which supports international visitors studying in Japan. We also run one of Japan’s largest social media networks dedicated to studying abroad and learning English. Since our founding in 2012, we’ve grown to a team of around 150 people with offices in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Australia, Canada, and the Philippines.
Rebuilding an analog industry with AI
The study abroad industry has lagged far behind in IT and AI adoption, and we see that as our biggest opportunity. We are implementing AI agents for knowledge search, business automation, and automated customer support, and building the technology foundation of the business from scratch: technology selection, architecture, and development culture included. Engineering works as a small, autonomous team where each member holds real decision-making authority and owns problems end to end.
Most of us speak English
Around 80% of the company speaks English, and our morning meetings regularly include time to speak it. The team is internationally diverse, with members across Japan, Australia, Canada, and the Philippines, and the company invests in language skills through an in-house foreign language training program and LifeChange Trip, our overseas training program. English is part of everyday work here, not an exception.
