Team’s Mission
- Mercari’s crossborder team is developing new frameworks and sales channels with the goal of allowing users around the world to buy and sell items across borders on the Mercari marketplace app.
- This team plays an essential role within Mercari Group, as its work of connecting people and things around the world so that anyone can easily buy and sell items internationally has a direct impact on the achievement of our Group mission to “circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people.”

- The crossborder business connects directly to Mercari’s mission to “circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people.” As a member of this team, you will have the unique opportunity to provide our users with the experience of connecting and completing a transaction with someone on the other side of the world.
- Until now, we have grown sales by expanding upon our existing frameworks (selling Mercari items overseas through intermediaries). However, going forward, this team will create brand-new frameworks to seize various new business opportunities in the crossborder domain.
- Currently, our crossborder business is looking to grow and expand. In this role, you will be able to propose bold and exciting growth strategies based on data to help our business reach the next level.
- This is a challenging position that will require you to develop a new business while using the assets owned by Japan’s largest marketplace app, but a rewarding one that will have a big global impact if successful.
Responsibilities
- Propose strategies to acquire users and business partners
- Help build and execute growth strategies through market research and user log analysis
- Help establish and visualize business simulations, metrics, and numerical targets
- Conduct quantitative analyses of events that have major business impact in order to propose guidelines
- Identify ways to continuously enhance the user experience and propose plans for improvement
- Utilize quantitative/qualitative data to discover user issues
- Propose initiatives to solve issues based on analysis of behavioral logs
- Design success metrics and establish testing plans
- Measure impact of initiatives and derive insight
- Analyze data and design test environments
- Share data with partners and put together the data to be provided
- Design test environments and data specifications for new services
- Test the accuracy of data platforms and test environments
Requirements
- Shared belief in the mission and values of Mercari Group and its various companies
- Passion for creating new business opportunities
- 5+ years of practical experience with data analysis aimed at solving business- and user-related issues
- Experience analyzing data using SQL or another programming language
- Knowledge and skills to perform basic data operations in SQL (we will have you submit a data operations assignment using SQL during the selection process)
- Basic understanding of statistics
- Experience working with product managers to improve a service
- Deep understanding of Mercari’s products and ability to proactively suggest ideas for improvement
Nice to haves
While not specifically required, tell us if you have any of the following.
- Extensive experience analyzing C2C market data and e-commerce businesses, and a basic understanding of KPIs and how businesses are structured
- Extensive experience buying and selling on crossborder e-commerce sites and marketplaces, and an ability to proactively propose hypotheses and ideas for improvement
- Experience planning and conducting user interviews and market research
- Experience in project management and team management
- Experience in hypothesis testing flows that involve designing and executing A/B tests
- Knowledge regarding the product development cycle
- Experience creating a growth model for a business or service and setting KPI targets
- Experience performing analysis for a marketing or advertising business
- Experience in practical application of statistical analyses conducted via Python, R, etc. (hypothesis testing, regression analysis, causal inference)
