About the position

This role blends the ownership of a data engineer and the business impact of an analyst. You’ll partner closely with stakeholders to translate problems into scalable data solutions, shape our semantic layer and KPIs, and continuously improve performance and efficiency in our data platform. Your contributions will directly accelerate how we understand customers, optimize conversational commerce, and drive growth at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing robust dimensional data models that enable self-service analytics and reporting
  • Building and maintaining transformation layers using dbt to deliver trusted, well-documented datasets
  • Defining and managing business logic, metrics, and KPIs through a semantic layer
  • Partnering with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data models
  • Establishing and enforcing data quality standards through testing, documentation, and monitoring
  • Optimizing query performance and warehouse costs through effective modeling strategies

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in analytics, data engineering, or related fields with strong SQL proficiency
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with dbt (dbt Core or dbt Cloud)
  • Solid understanding of dimensional modeling techniques (Kimball, Data Vault, or similar)
  • Experience working with cloud data warehouses, preferably BigQuery
  • Proven ability to translate complex business requirements into clear, maintainable data models
  • Strong documentation habits and commitment to data governance
  • Experience collaborating with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders
  • Fluent Japanese language skills with ability to have daily conversations in English

Nice to haves

While not specifically required, tell us if you have any of the following.

  • Experience with dbt Semantic Layer or metrics layer implementations
  • Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Omni
  • Understanding of incremental materialization strategies and cost optimization
  • Experience working in bilingual (Japanese/English) environments
  • Fluent English language skills
