About AI&

AI& Yokohama, Kanagawa

A vertically integrated AI platform from Japan for the global market. We recently officially launched with $50M in seed funding and more than $2B in committed infrastructure capital.

About the position

As a Field Application Engineer for our Compute Platform, you are the technical face of ai&’s PaaS compute offering to customers. You will support pre-sales engagements, lead technical onboarding, and provide ongoing implementation and support for customers deploying web applications, APIs, backend services, and general compute workloads on ai& infrastructure.

Our compute platform is built for simplicity — developers and engineering teams should be able to deploy any workload without managing the infrastructure underneath. Your job is to make that promise real for every customer you work with. You need to be technical enough to understand customer architectures and work alongside their engineers, and clear enough to communicate the value of the platform to business stakeholders and decision-makers.

You will work across a wide range of customers — from startups deploying their first production application to enterprises migrating complex workloads from platforms like Heroku or AWS Elastic Beanstalk. The common thread is that you are the person who makes deployment feel easy, fast, and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Pre-Sales Support the sales team in pre-sales engagements for the compute platform. Lead technical discovery sessions, run platform demonstrations, respond to technical evaluation criteria, and help customers understand how ai& compute fits their workload and infrastructure requirements.

  • Technical Communication Explain platform capabilities, architecture, and deployment patterns clearly to audiences ranging from backend engineers to CTOs to non-technical business stakeholders. Make the platform feel accessible without glossing over important technical details.

  • Customer Onboarding & Implementation Own the technical onboarding process for new compute platform customers. Guide migration from existing platforms including Heroku, Render, Railway, and cloud providers. Ensure customers reach production quickly and on the right foundation.

  • Customer Support Across the Stack Be the technical point of contact for compute platform customers. Diagnose issues across application runtime, networking, and infrastructure layers. Coordinate with internal engineering teams to drive resolution.

  • Requirements Gathering Understand what customers are building, how they are currently running it, and what they need from a compute platform. Translate requirements into clear guidance for onboarding and inform the product team about gaps and opportunities.

  • Proof of Concept & Migration Support Lead technical POCs and migration assessments. Help customers understand the effort involved in migrating to ai& compute, identify risks early, and build confidence in the platform before committing.

  • Customer Feedback Loop Systematically bring customer feedback from the field back into the product and engineering teams. Be the signal that keeps the compute platform moving in the right direction.

Requirements

  • Technical Pre-Sales or Field Engineering Experience You have worked in a solutions engineering, field application engineering, or technical pre-sales role. You know how to support a sales process technically and how to earn the trust of a customer’s engineering team.

  • PaaS and Cloud Platform Knowledge Strong familiarity with PaaS and cloud deployment platforms. Experience with Heroku, Render, Railway, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, or Google App Engine is a strong signal. You understand how developers deploy applications and where they run into problems.

  • Application and Infrastructure Depth Solid understanding of web application deployment, containerization, networking, databases, and the full stack that surrounds a production application. You can diagnose problems at any layer.

  • Communication Clarity You explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences. You are as comfortable in a technical architecture review as you are in a business evaluation meeting.

  • Onboarding and Support Track Record Experience helping customers migrate to or onboard onto a new platform. You are thorough, patient, and follow through until customers are successfully running in production.

  • Bilingual Fluency Professional fluency in Japanese and English is required.

  • Great Team Spirit A mission-driven approach to customer work, valuing clear communication, technical depth, and collective success over individual recognition.
